This is one of the news that i found and came across. This is a clear example of how Muslims are being represented through the media. As you can see, Asghar Bukhari is debating that taking the Veil off is not a good idea, and he also mentions why are the Muslims specifically getting targeted at. i believe that this is a excellent example to use in our documentary 'Islamophobia' as it covers some of the idea we have come across.
A medical doctor by professional training, Dr. Zakir Naik is renowed as a dynamic international orator on Islam and Comparative Religion. Dr. Zakir Naik clarifies Islamic viewpoints and clears misconceptions about Islam, using the Qur'an, authentic Hadith and other religious Scriptures as a basis, in conjunction with reason, logic and scientific facts.
Dr. Zakir is popular for his critical analysis and convincing answers to challenging questions posed by audiences after his public talks. In the last 6 years (by the year 2002), Dr. Zakir Naik has delivered more than 600 public talks in the U.S.A., Canada, U.K., Saudi Arabia, U.A.E., Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, South Africa, Mauritius, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Hongkong, Thailand, Guyana (South America) and many other countries, in addition to numerous public talks in India.

I have added in the lyrics for this nasheed, for those people that do not understand what Sami Yusuf is saying. The reason why me and Tanya decided to use his music in 'Islamophobia' is because he is well known and his nasheeds are excellent.
Hasbi Rabbi
O Allah the Almighty
Protect me and guide me
To your love and mercy
Ya Allah don’t deprive me
From beholding your beauty
O my Lord accept this plea
CHORUS:
Hasbi rabbi jallallah
Ma fi qalbi ghayrullah
My Lord is enough for me, Glory be to Allah
There is nothing in my heart except Allah
CHORUS
Hindi:
Wo tanha kaun hai
Badshah wo kaun hai
Meherba wo kaun hai
Who is the only One?
Who is the King?
Who is the Merciful?
Kya unchi shan hai
Uskey sab nishan hai
Sab dilon ki jan hai
Who is the most praised and benevolent?
Whatever you see in this world is His sign
He’s the love of every soul
CHORUS
Turkish:
Affeder gunahi
Alemin padisahi
Yureklerin penahi
He is the Forgiver of all sins
He is the King of the universe
He is the Refuge of all hearts
Isit Allah derdimi, bu ahlarimi
Rahmeyle, bagisla gunahlarimi
Hayreyle hem aksam hem sabahlarimi
O Allah hear my sorrows and my sighs
Have mercy and pardon my sins
Bless my night and days
CHORUS
Arabic:
Ya rabbal ‘alamin
Salli ‘ala Tahal amin
Fi kulli waqtin wa hin
O Lord of the worlds
Send peace and blessings
On Ta-ha the trustworthy

Fill my heart with conviction
Make me steadfast on this Religion
And forgive me and all the believers

Sorry i have taken the pictures off, as it will offend many Muslims out there! Sorry...
Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy
The Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy began after twelve editorial cartoons most of which depicted the Islamic prophet Muhammed, were published in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten on 30Th September 2005. The newspaper announced that this publication was an attempt to contribute to the debate regarding criticism of Islam. In response, Danish Muslims held public protests. As the controversy grew, examples of the cartoons were reprinted in newspapers in more than fifty other countries, which led to violent as well as peaceful protests, including rioting particularly in the Muslim World. Critics of the cartoons describe them as Islamophobic or racist . However Supporters of the cartoons claim they illustrate an important issue in a period of Islamic Terrorism and that their publication is a legitimate exercise of the right of free-speech. The Hypodermic Needle Theory The Hypodermic Needle Theory suggests that the media is like a syringe which injects ideas, attitudes, and beliefs into the audience. As you can see the Danish Cartoons do inject ideas, attitudes and beliefs into the audience due to the fact that they are portraying all Muslims as terrorists when in fact it is just a minority. Therefore the Danish cartoons are following 'The Hypodermic Needle Theory',as they are giving out the belief system that all Muslims are extreme in their beliefs. This helps the public turn against Muslims causing an 'Islamophobic' feeling in the society that we live in. Xx By Tanya xX |
While researching on 'Islamophobia' I came across a really useful site, that shows how 'Islamophobia' is being tackled in a number of places, which would be quite useful to conclude our documentary on.
The Website is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamophobia#Efforts_against_Islamophobia
Some of the main points that me and Naziya have considered to include in our documentary include:
1. Council on American-Islamic Relations(CAIR) states that throughout the 2000s, it has been active in defending American-Muslims against Islamophobia.
2. 50,000 people signed a petition urging the President of France Jacques Chirac to curb the growing hatred and discrimination towards Muslims in France.
3.Following the July 7 bombings, the British government set up a number of initiatives aimed at combating Islamophobia, including the "National Forum against extremism and Islamophobia".
4.The Mayor of London, Ken Livingston, said that the Media bore some responsibility for the apparent rise in Islamophobia, and said that a "rising tide of Islamophobia" in the media must be challenged. He compared the reporting of Muslims in contemporary Britain to the way the flight of Jews from Russia had been covered 100 years ago. There was also plans by the British government to ban incitement to "religious hatred".

Alternative Christmas Message (Channel 4, 25th December 2006)
By The Muslim Lecturer Khadija
The Alternative Christmas message was a very useful piece of research that I came across, as it demonstrated the experiences of a Christian woman converting to Islam 10-11 years ago.
Even though the "Alternative Christmas Message" was a short programme, it had some very typical conventions of a documentary, that would be very useful when we are producing our own documentary on "Islamophobia".
1. Archive Footage -The use of the Archive footage such as the riots in
2. Voice over- The voice over/narrator of the programme is actually the lecturer Khadija throughout. This is helping to challenge the patriarchal society due to the fact that it is usually a Male voice over. We have also decided to have a female voice over in "Islamophobia" because it demonstrates that the society that we live in has moved on in time, therefore it connotes that our documentary is dealing with current issues.
3. The Talking Head- Throughout the documentary Khadija can be seen as the Talking Head, due to the fact that she is a lecturer and is therefore seen as authoritative and knowledgeable because she is presenting the public with factual information about her faith. It is quite useful to have a 'talking head' in "Islamophobia" because it helps put an argument to the public across making them think in a certain way, and it also makes your argument seem more believable because you are sort of having an expert talking about their chosen topic.
4. Framing- Throughout the "Alternative Christmas Message" we are shown a number of shots that are mainly medium shots of Khadija on the right hand side of the screen. In the background of the shots it is rather plain, this helps make Khadija stand out . The framing is very successful due to the fact that it allows the the audience to empathise with Khadija's argument due to the minimalism . Therefore when we are producing "Islamophobia" we would have to take into account the different types of framing that we would use, as we want to help create different meanings amongst the viewers about our chosen topic.
5. Music- The "Alternative Christmas Message" has very little music throughout the programme . The only time when we here music is at the beginning and at the end of the programme , the music is parallel due to the fact that it is instrumental Christmas music and therefore it goes with the whole theme of the programme which is 'Christmas'. It is also very calming and therefore it attracts the audience because Christmas is seen as quite a relaxing time of the year . As a result when we are producing "Islamophobia" we would have to take into account the type of music we would use such as contrapuntal or parallel music, as music is a very expressive way to show emotions etc and therefore it helps create meaning amongst our audience about our chosen topic.

1.Since October 2006, Tanya been collecting articles from newspapers that relate to 'Islamophobia'.
2.Naziya has been recording live Islamic events, such as the Global Unity Peace Conference, as well video captions from the News.
3.Tanya has been listening to contemporary Rock/Indie music that could possibly be used in 'Islamophobia' such as Chris Cornell, Greenday,Scott Matthews and Jack Johnson. Naziya has been listening to Islamic music such as Sami Yusuf , as we have decided that we would like to put both contrapuntal and parallel music.
4. Both myself and Naziya have been using the Internet to download music, pictures, videos , as well as for research purposes.
5. We have also researched into the places that we would like to interview different people such as East London, Oxford Street and local areas.
6. Moreover we have also researched into experts who are familiar with the topic 'Islamophobia', and whom we can include in our documentary.
Overall, by doing this research we have had a few ideas on the possible outcomes that 'Islamophobia' can consist of. Furthermore, in my point of view (Tanya) I found the research extremely useful as i got an insight into the world of Islam as i wasn't so familiar with it before.By Naziya and Tanya
Islamophobia will hopefully challenge the typical stereotypes of the way muslims are being represented in society.
By Tanya
For my practical production, we have decided to make a short documentary, on 'Islamophobia'.
In a group of two, we have decided to work together because I'm (Naziya) a muslim and my partner is a Non- Muslim, and therefore we can express our different views towards 'Islamophobia', giving a balanced argument, to our primary target audience, of teenagers 16+.
The Purpose of this documentary will be to inform and educate our target audience as well as to challenge people's views towards Islam.
